Review:
What's that noise, Mr Croc? by Jo Lodge
Hodder Books, 2008. ISBN
9780340960011.
(Age 3-7) This vividly illustrated pop-up book will be sure to please
young children. The fifth in the series, this time Mr Croc is dressed
as a young child who has lots of fun making sounds around the house. He
bangs pots and pans, listens to the ring of the phone, cracks open an
egg and generally has lots of fun with noise.
The illustrations are a visual feast of bold colours and simple forms.
The book has simple tabs that open to give the answer to the question:
'What's that noise, Mr. Croc?', as well as words that give give clues
to the answer. There are tabs to pull to make objects move. The last
picture of Mr Croc is a stunning pop-up which will be a winning
feature.
The text is simple, lots of fun and repetitive and would be useful for
the beginning reader. It is a fascinating book which will be read again
and again.
